How We Compare Store Apps

AppOutfitter exists to answer one question the rest of the app-store world tends to skip: which app should I actually pay for? Sponsored roundups and vendor landing pages are everywhere. Independent, evidence-first decisions are not. That gap is our job.

We are an independent aggregator, and we say so plainly. We are not a team of merchants publishing our own store numbers, and we do not claim to be. What we do is read the whole picture — published pricing and feature documentation, vendor changelogs, and large samples of real merchant reviews — and turn it into a scored, comparable verdict. When a claim can only be settled by running an app at a scale we have not, we say that too. We trail-test the paperwork, not your store.

The scoring rubric

Every comparison runs the same five-axis rubric, so a $15 widget and a $99 platform are judged on one sheet.

Coverage
What the app actually does versus what it markets — the features a store operator uses weekly, not the length of the feature list.
Data & reliability
How dependable the app is in the workflow — uptime and sync reports, how accurate its numbers are, and how it behaves at the edges merchants report.
Ease of use
How fast a real operator gets to value: setup, interface clarity, and how steep the learning curve runs before the app pays rent.
Pricing & value
Published price against the field, what each tier unlocks, free-tier and trial limits, and where usage-based pricing starts to bite.
Support & ecosystem
Documentation, responsiveness, integration surface, and how merchants report the billing and cancellation experience.

Where our numbers come from

Prices, plan tiers, feature sets, and trial limits are drawn from each vendor's own pricing pages and documentation. We cross-reference them against aggregated merchant reviews to catch the gap between the marketing and the workflow — the feature gated behind a higher tier, the contact-count pricing that jumps sooner than expected, the cancellation that is harder than the signup.

Prices and plans move constantly, so any figure on the site is a snapshot. The live number always comes from the vendor at the moment you click through, which is why our links go straight to current pricing rather than quoting a number we cannot keep current.

Always current

Store apps change their pricing and features often. When an app adds a feature, drops one, or reprices a plan, we update the affected comparisons — and the date you see reflects that real change, not a cosmetic refresh. “Independent and always current” is the promise, so we hold ourselves to it.

Independence and disclosure are covered separately on our editorial standards page. Questions about a verdict? Reach the team.
